What Queensland law requires by 1 January 2027
Queensland has the strictest smoke alarm laws in Australia. From 1 January 2027, every home — owner-occupied or rented — must meet all of the requirements below.
Your home must have alarms that are:
- Photoelectric — the sensor type proven to detect smouldering fires earliest (ionisation alarms don't comply)
- Interconnected — when one alarm sounds, every alarm in the home sounds together
- Installed in every bedroom and in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the home
- Installed on every storey, even levels without bedrooms
- Hardwired or powered by a 10-year sealed battery — existing hardwired alarms must be replaced with hardwired
- Certified to Australian Standard AS 3786-2014 or AS 3786-2023
- Less than 10 years old — older alarms must be replaced even if they still beep
The rollout — and what's left

Homes sold or rented

Premium Anka photoelectric alarms — built for the QLD standard
We install one product, and it's the right one: a premium-grade photoelectric, wirelessly interconnected smoke alarm designed specifically to meet Queensland's compliance requirements.
-
Photoelectric sensing
Detects slow, smouldering fires — the most common household killer — minutes earlier than ionisation alarms.
-
Wireless interconnection
Every alarm talks to every other alarm — one detects smoke, they all sound. No wall-chasing or re-wiring for battery models.
-
10-year sealed battery
No more midnight low-battery chirps or yearly battery swaps — sealed lithium power for the life of the alarm.
-
Certified compliant
Meets Australian Standard AS 3786-2014/2023 — the certification Queensland legislation demands.
Thousands of Queensland homes. One standard: done properly.
Licensed & insured
Every installation is carried out by a licensed electrician — never a handyman with a ladder.

Queenslanders sleeping easier
The quote over the phone was exactly what I paid on the day. Electrician was on time, tidy, and walked me through testing every alarm before he left. Painless.

Had no idea our old alarms wouldn't comply. The inspection report made it dead simple, and the fee came off the install price like they promised. Highly recommend.

Selling our place meant we had to be compliant fast. Booked Tuesday, installed Thursday, certificate ready for the contract. Absolute lifesavers.
