What Queensland law requires by 1 January 2027
Queensland has the strictest smoke alarm laws in Australia. From 1 January 2027, every home — owner-occupied or rented — must meet all of the requirements below.
Your home must have alarms that are:
- Photoelectric — the sensor type proven to detect smouldering fires earliest (ionisation alarms don't comply)
- Interconnected — when one alarm sounds, every alarm in the home sounds together
- Installed in every bedroom and in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the home
- Installed on every storey, even levels without bedrooms
- Hardwired or powered by a 10-year sealed battery — existing hardwired alarms must be replaced with hardwired
- Certified to Australian Standard AS 3786-2014 or AS 3786-2023
- Less than 10 years old — older alarms must be replaced even if they still beep
The rollout — and what's left
New builds & major renovations
All new homes and substantially renovated homes required interconnected photoelectric alarms.
Homes sold or rented
Every home sold, leased, or with a renewed lease must comply before settlement or tenancy.
Every Queensland home
The final stage — all remaining owner-occupied homes and dwellings must be fully compliant.
This one applies to youFixed prices. No callout fees. No surprises.
You'll know your cost before anyone steps inside your home — and it won't change on the day.

Compliant in four simple steps
From first call to fully certified — most homes are done in a single visit.
STEP 01
Tell us about your home
Send us your details and we'll give you a call. We confirm your alarm count and lock in a fixed price — over the phone, no pushy sales visit.
STEP 02
Secure your booking
A $35 booking fee (via secure Stripe payment) reserves your licensed electrician — fully refundable if we can't complete the job.
STEP 03
We install & interconnect
Your electrician fits photoelectric alarms to the legislation's placement rules, interconnects the whole system and tests every unit with you.
STEP 04
Certified compliant, same day
You receive your compliance certificate on the day of installation, plus a 10-year manufacturer warranty on every alarm we install.
See exactly what goes on your ceiling
Our licensed electricians install premium photoelectric alarms certified to AS 3786-2014/2023 to make your home compliant — and hand you your compliance certificate the same day.
Battery Operated Smoke Alarm
What we install in your bedrooms, hallways and remaining locations — wireless interconnection with no house wiring required, powered by a 10-year sealed lithium battery.
Remote Controller
Wireless testing and hush control for all units from one wall-mounted remote. No more climbing ladders to silence alarms.
240V Hardwired Smoke Alarm
If your home already has hardwired alarms, the law requires like-for-like replacement — our electricians swap them for compliant hardwired units with a 10-year backup battery.
Thousands of Queensland homes. One standard: done properly.
Licensed & insured
Every installation is carried out by a licensed electrician — never a handyman with a ladder.
Fixed, honest pricing
$90 per alarm. The price we quote is the price you pay — no callout fees, no on-the-day extras.

Queensland locals
A QLD team that knows QLD law — we live and breathe this legislation so you don't have to.
Queenslanders sleeping easier
The quote over the phone was exactly what I paid on the day. Electrician was on time, tidy, and walked me through testing every alarm before he left. Painless.

4-bedroom home · North Lakes
Had no idea our old alarms wouldn't comply. The inspection report made it dead simple, and the fee came off the install price like they promised. Highly recommend.

Selling our place meant we had to be compliant fast. Booked Tuesday, installed Thursday, certificate ready for the contract. Absolute lifesavers.
